The Nora Branch of The Indianapolis Public Library will close for an extended renovation beginning Sunday, December 10, 2023.
The Branch is expected to reopen with an updated entrance, a drive-up return, updated restrooms, group study and tutoring rooms, an updated community room that can host 60 patrons, a comfort room adjacent to the children’s area, increased access to outlets for device charging, and updated mechanical and lighting systems. In addition, The Nora Branch will be seeking LEEDv4 Silver Certification for energy and resource conservation.
“It's important for The Library to make sure our physical spaces address the evolving needs of the communities we serve,” said Gregory Hill, CEO of The Indianapolis Public Library. “This renovation represents our commitment to providing a modern, welcoming, and sustainable environment for patrons, and I’m excited to see how the community will utilize this space.”
In early 2023, the Nora community was invited to solicit ideas for the renovation’s design and to share local community needs via a series of community meetings and a survey. The meetings were led by architects and designers from Luminaut and Four Point Design, as well as representatives from The Library.
The project budget of $2,250,000 will be funded by bonds approved by the Indianapolis City-County Council that are assessed without an increase in IndyPL’s current debt service tax rate.
Beginning December 2, the Nora Branch hold pickup location will be the College Avenue Branch at 4180 North College Avenue. In addition to College Avenue, Northeast side locations include Fort Ben and Lawrence. If a patron is unable to visit one of the alternate locations or has transportation concerns, they may reach out to The Library’s Outreach Department at 317-275-4075 for home delivery services.
